Conclusion: Things to Remember Before Trekking to Sandakphu

  • Solo hiking is not advisable. A certified local guide is essential, as the trail passes through remote mountain regions where it's easy to lose your way.
  • Mobile networks are unreliable in most parts of the trail. While you may not find cell towers en route, most homestays now offer Wi-Fi, which can help you stay connected when stationary.
  • Reaching Manebhanjan can be a bit tricky since it’s off the typical tourist route. I’ll share a reliable local driver’s contact number to assist with transportation.
  • High-altitude sickness and breathing difficulties are common among trekkers, especially above 3,000 meters. Take time to acclimatize and stay hydrated.
  • Trek difficulty level: Moderate — suitable for children above 10 years of age.
  • If you have a heart condition, asthma, or any serious medical issue, please consult your doctor before planning this trek.
  • Summer temperatures may drop to as low as 1–2°C at night.
  • In winter, expect extreme cold — temperatures in Sandakphu can fall to –10°C to –20°C. Pack adequate winter gear, including layers, gloves, and thermal wear.
  • Do not carry more than 20 kg of luggage. Excess weight will tire you out and affect your trekking performance.
  • Always follow your guide’s instructions. Never wander off alone — if you must leave the group for any reason, inform the guide.
